YOUR JAPAN TRIP PLANNER
Hi, I’m Audrey, the founder of Get Lost in Japan.
I’m a San Francisco-based travel blogger with a deep love for Japan and creating those magical travel moments that stay with you long after you get home. I created my blog to help people plan memorable, well-paced trips to Japan without feeling totally overwhelmed by the process.
I’ve been visiting Japan since 2019, and have explored 31 places across 14 prefectures so far. While I’ve traveled to nearly 20 countries overall, Japan is the destination I keep coming back to and the one I most love writing about. Unique traits like their outstanding hospitality, beautiful shrines, and “only in Japan” things like 24/7 rice balls just keep pulling me back.
I also just LOVE planning trips. Over the years, I’ve created numerous itineraries for myself, my friends, my family, and now readers like you too. I figured since I plan so many trips of Japan for myself, I might as well write about it.
Anyway, if you’re dreaming about Japan and want help putting together a trip that feels exciting, smooth, and special, you’re in the right place.
In 2019, I traveled to Japan for the first time when I was 22 after going through a breakup and feeling a bit lost. I had seen so many beautiful places through photos, but experiencing them in real life felt surreal, and it was even better than I could have imagined. I felt truly alive, like I was living out my dream.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but that trip sparked my love for traveling in Japan. I fell in love with the romantic ryokans, nostalgic streets, beautiful sights, and the feeling of discovering hidden spots that made the world feel magical.
The journey wasn’t always easy. Financially, I struggled to save enough to afford trips to keep going back. I also struggled with the confidence to put myself out there and create something online where anyone could see it.
I’m not a local, and I don’t pretend to be. This site is through the lens of a traveler who fell deeply in love with Japan and has spent 7 years planning trips, staying in beautiful hotels and ryokans, building perfect itineraries, and finding special gems that make the country feel unforgettable. My goal is to help you plan a trip that feels romantic, thoughtful, and truly worth dreaming about.
I created my blog, Get Lost in Japan, to share itineraries, hotel stays, and recommendations with others. Over time, I found unexpected support from friends and coworkers who genuinely appreciated my recommendations and asked me for advice on hotels, itineraries, and tips for navigating the country. That helped me realize my recommendations were legitimate. If I loved a stay, other people could love it too.
Because I’m a traveler, I see Japan through a romantic, dreamy lens. I notice the beauty, wonder, and magic of the places I visit, but I also care about the practical details that make a trip easier to plan. My guides are for travelers who want Japan to feel beautiful, thoughtful, and unforgettable, without feeling overwhelmed by the planning process.
Planning a trip to Japan can be a lot. There are so many neighborhoods, train routes, hotels, ryokan, day trips, and tiny details to think about. I know how overwhelming that can feel because I’ve been there too.
That’s why I naturally ended up making Get Lost in Japan.
On this blog, you’ll find practical guides and firsthand recommendations to help you plan with confidence, including:
My content leans especially toward luxury stays, ryokan, onsen towns, romantic getaways, and first-time Japan travel. I love helping people create trips that feel both beautifully planned and genuinely fun.
