Meet Audrey

YOUR JAPAN TRIP PLANNER

Hi, I’m Audrey, the founder of Get Lost in Japan.

I’m a San Francisco-based travel blogger with a deep love for Japan and creating those magical travel moments that stay with you long after you get home. I created my blog to help people plan memorable, well-paced trips to Japan without feeling totally overwhelmed by the process.

I’ve been visiting Japan since 2019, and have explored 31 places across 14 prefectures so far. While I’ve traveled to nearly 20 countries overall, Japan is the destination I keep coming back to and the one I most love writing about. Unique traits like their outstanding hospitality, beautiful shrines, and “only in Japan” things like 24/7 rice balls just keep pulling me back.

I also just LOVE planning trips. Over the years, I’ve created numerous itineraries for myself, my friends, my family, and now readers like you too. I figured since I plan so many trips of Japan for myself, I might as well write about it.

Anyway, if you’re dreaming about Japan and want help putting together a trip that feels exciting, smooth, and special, you’re in the right place.

A few quick facts about me:

  • I’m based in San Francisco, California.

My Japan Story

Japan was always dream destination for me, and I finally went when I was 22 and just about to graduate nursing school. I’m sure you can expect it, but I feel like I went through a transcendental journey. Seriously. Every trip since then has made me fall in love with it even more.

I love the energy of the cities, the quiet beauty of smaller towns, the incredible food, the attention to detail, and the feeling that even a simple stay can become something incredible. One day I’m wandering through Tokyo, and the next I’m soaking in a private onsen, eating a decadent kaiseki dinner, or stumbling into a charming little shopping street full of knick-knacks I can’t help but buy.

Since 2019, I’ve returned to Japan again and again, exploring places like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hakone, Kawaguchiko, Atami, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Sapporo, Hakodate, and more. Some of my favorite experiences have come from slower, more intentional travel, and my favorite thing to do is renting a car with my fiance and exploring the rural countryside.

With this blog, I hope to help you experience Japan in a way that feels exciting, doable, and deeply memorable, whether it’s your very first trip or your fifth.

How I can serve You

Planning a trip to Japan can be a lot. There are so many neighborhoods, train routes, hotels, ryokan, day trips, and tiny details to think about. I know how overwhelming that can feel because I’ve been there too.

That’s why I naturally ended up making Get Lost in Japan.

On this blog, you’ll find practical guides and firsthand recommendations to help you plan with confidence, including:

  • Detailed destination guides for places I’ve personally visited
  • Thoughtful itineraries for first-time and return trips
  • Hotel and ryokan reviews, especially for memorable stays and onsen escapes
  • Tips on where to eat, stay, and explore based on my own experiences
  • Japan travel planning advice to make your trip smoother and less stressful
  • Custom itinerary support if you want more personalized help

My content leans especially toward luxury-leaning stays, ryokan, onsen towns, romantic getaways, and first-time Japan travel. I love helping people create trips that feel both beautifully planned and genuinely fun.
