Tokyu Stay Tsukiji Review: The Best Hotel for Foodies
Last Updated on January 2, 2025 by Audrey

Thinking about whether you should stay in Tokyu Stay Tsukiji? Here's my full review of the popular hotel!
The last time I visited Tokyo, we were looking around for hotels around the Ginza area. We ended up choosing Tokyu Stay Tsukiji because it was close to Ginza, but right next to the Tsukiji Outer Market so we could enjoy an easy breakfast every day!
I've stayed in many hotels and Airbnbs around Japan during my numerous trips throughout the years. Last year, I stayed at Tokyu Stay Tsukiji for 4 days, so I can give you my real unbiased opinion based on my thoughts and experience here.
Here's a complete, comprehensive review of the Tsukiji branch of the popular hotel chain so you can decide if you should stay here on your next Tokyo trip.

Bottom Line
⭐ Best for: Solo travelers, couples, small groups (2 per room), business travelers, foodies.
I really liked staying at Tokyu Stay Tsukiji and recommend it! The location was convenient, with a 4-minute walk to Tsukiji Station, a 30-second walk to Tsukiji Outer Market, and less than a 15-minute walk to the Ginza shopping area.
There were tons of delicious food stalls, and we ate at Tsukiji Market every day. You won't go hungry here, it's a foodie lover's paradise with more variety than you could imagine!

The rooms were modern, clean, and had lots of included amenities, my favorite being the in-room washer/dryer.
The hotel staff were extremely kind and hospitable, especially when we accidentally booked the wrong number of nights—we were supposed to book for 4 nights but only reserved 3. The hotel staff helped us resolve the issue seamlessly. Even though we were technically supposed to check out, they allowed us to stay and kept all our belongings safe.
While this hotel does require two trains to reach Shinjuku/Shibuya, its affordability and convenience make it worth it.

Tokyu Stay Tsukiji Full Review
Here's my full, comprehensive review of everything I experienced during my stay at Tokyu Stay Tsukiji.
Modern, Quiet Vibe
The hotel is a modern-looking property off the corner of the bustling Tsukiji Outer Market. It's just steps away from the stalls, but since it's off the corner it's relatively quiet in front of the hotel and you won't experience any crowding from the actual market.
The exterior is painted black and has a simple Tokyu Stay sign. Once you enter, the interior has warm, natural lighting with lots of wooden features and natural plants. Everything looks pretty new and clean.

There's a nice large lounge area that you'll see as soon as you walk in. It's quiet and relaxing, we came early around 2 P.M., and were able to relax in the lounge area and sip coffee until our room was ready.
Great Location next to Tsukiji Market
The location is fantastic—just steps away from Tsukiji Outer Market. We were able to venture out every day to enjoy delicious sashimi and snacks.
Some of us who were jetlagged wandered the stalls at 5 in the morning when the market was quiet, and the vendors were just setting up for the day.
The market gets lively from 9 AM to around 3 PM, but since Tokyu Stay is tucked just off the corner of the market, there’s no issue returning to your hotel. Once the market closes at night, the streets become wonderfully quiet and peaceful, making it easy to get a restful sleep.

The hotel is also just a 15-minute walk from the popular Ginza shopping area. We walked to Ginza a couple of times, and the route was very scenic—passing by the Kabuki Theater and spotting salarymen on their way to work. The road is flat, so it’s an easy walk.
Staying here gives you access to the Ginza area at a more affordable price while keeping you close to shops and attractions.
It’s only a 4-minute walk to Tsukiji Station, which makes getting around Tokyo very convenient. The only minor downside is that Tsukiji Station isn’t a central hub like Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ginza. Sometimes we had to transfer to the Hibiya Line and take two trains to get back.
If you stay closer to Ginza Station, you can avoid this extra transfer. That said, it was a very minor inconvenience and didn’t detract from our stay.
Clean, Affordable Rooms
The rooms are clean, modern, and about the standard size for Tokyo hotels. There are three main room options:
- Moderate Double Room: 15 m² with a double bed, microwave, and washer/dryer (no kitchenette).
- Residential Double Room: Slightly larger at 18 m², with a double bed and a small kitchenette in addition to the amenities in the Moderate Double. This is the option we chose.
- Superior Twin Room: The largest room available at 26 m², featuring two twin beds and all the same amenities.
The Residential Double and Superior Twin rooms are better suited for long-term guests due to their additional space and features.

While the space was sufficient, we struggled a bit with our full-sized check-in luggage. We had to open our suitcases on the bed (after covering the blankets), which is something I’ve found to be pretty common in Tokyo hotels, so it wasn't a huge negative for me.
You get a table that can also be used as an office space. My partner worked remotely during our trip and the space was big enough. The Wi-Fi was pretty fast as well, so he was able to work without issue.
There is a sliding door that leads to a balcony, but the space is pretty negligible. You get maybe 1-2 feet of space, just enough to hang a shirt or two. The view isn’t much to speak of since it’s just another building, and due to the limited space in the room, it was hard to reach the balcony door.
We ended up never really using the balcony other than drying some clothes that were still damp after washing.
💡 Pro tip: Children over 6 are included as adults upon booking, so you may have to book additional rooms if you have children.
Cost per night
We paid a total of $1397 USD for 3 rooms for 4 days. We had a group of 5, so we paid about $116/room per night, which is very affordable!
Per Klook, rooms in Ginza cost around $170/night on average, so we got a steal while still getting to be in a popular area.
Many Convenient Features
The in-room washer/dryer was a total game-changer and one of the biggest reasons we chose Tokyu Stay. It was incredibly helpful throughout our trip.
The unit is small, and the instructions are in Japanese, so you’ll need to use Google Translate to figure it out. While you can only do halfloads at a time, it’s super convenient since you don’t have to share a public laundromat with other hotel guests.
I thought the dryer didn't work well at first, but once we started doing smaller loads, the clothes dried much better. Overall, it was a fantastic amenity that really helps if you're spending more than a week in Japan!

The hotel offers convenient grab-and-go amenities like lotion, soap, toothbrushes, tea bags, razors, and more, conveniently laid out right next to the elevator. It's super easy to stock up on whatever you need.
There’s also a large lounge area with free tea and coffee available 24/7. I used the coffee machine often, either at the beginning of the day or when I needed a pick-me-up when we dropped things off at the hotel before heading back out.
The lounge is spacious, comfortable, and relaxing. The lobby is pretty quiet, so you could easily get some work done here if you bring your laptop.
Multiple Breakfast Options
I didn't get to take advantage of Tokyu Stay's breakfast options, but I wish I did! I didn't realize this, but the hotel has partnerships with Tsukiji Uogashi Shokudo Food Court, Sushizanmai Hoten/Bekkan, and Hoshino Cafe Tsukiji, three restaurants located in Tsukiji Outer Market. You can enjoy a breakfast set from one of the stores at a reduced rate of 800 JPY.
I actually ate at Tsukiji Uogashi Shokudo towards the end of our trip without realizing we could get a discounted rate! I'll take advantage of this next time if I stay here again.
Also, if you're curious about what there is to eat for breakfast in Tsukiji Market, check this post here.

Tokyu Stay also offers Morning Plus, a flexible meal combo that’s perfect for guests who prefer to eat on their own schedule. It's available for purchase in the lobby area for 1,500, and there are two options to choose from: a Japanese meal set and a Western meal set.
You can pick up your meal during either of the designated time slots: 7:00–11:00 or 15:00–21:00, then enjoy it in your room at any time by reheating it in your microwave. It's a really convenient option if you have a packed schedule and don't have time to grab something at a konbini (convenience store).
Outstanding Customer Service
What stood out to me the most about Tokyu Stay Tsukiji was their exceptional customer service. When we first checked-in, the staff spoke English and were very kind and polite. But what really made a difference was when we made a mistake and only booked for 3 days instead of 4.
The staff tried to contact us throughout the day, but we were out sightseeing and had no idea. We didn't realize the mistake until we came back at 4 PM and they kindly informed us about the issue!
They handled everything so graciously. They didn't move any of our belongings from our rooms, and just charged us for the extra day. What could have been a big problem was resolved seamlessly, and they were so kind and hospitable the entire time.

The Wrap Up
Overall, I think Tokyu Stay Tsukiji is a great hotel option in the Ginza area. It's affordable and convenient, and there's so much food around that you'll get a great introduction to Japan's food culture.
The hotel is clean, the rooms are comfortable, and the customer service is excellent.
