Best Luxury Hotels in Sapporo
Now, forewarning: currently, there is only one 5-star hotel in Sapporo, and that’s Hotel Sosei MGallery (#1 on the list).
So while this list does include some 4-star hotels, a few more 5 star hotels are scheduled to open soon in Sapporo 2025-2026, so keep your eyes peeled for updates! I've also included some amazing 5 star hotels that are close to the area but not directly in the city.
Without further ado, here are the best hotels in Sapporo, Japan!
1. Hotel Sosei Sapporo MGallery Collection (5⭐S)
- ⭐ Rating: 9.3/10 (700 reviews)
- 💎 Standout Features: Incredible Service, Old Money Elegance, Prime Location
- 📍 Nearby Attractions: Sapporo Factory, Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower, Sapporo Beer Museum
- 🏨 Check rates and availability on Booking or Agoda
Hotel Sosei is the only internationally recognized 5 star hotel currently in Sapporo, though that won’t be true for long. However, this hotel lives up to the high expectations on its shoulders.

Every end of the hotel is glamorously designed, and each corner pays a tribute to Sapporo’s rich heritage. Interiors seamlessly merge Japanese elegance with Western charm, reimagining Sapporo’s history in a contemporary light.
I’m not usually one for moody tones, but the rooms have such a unique design that is done so tastefully. Deep, earthy tones and gold accents give the rooms a high-class touch without looking too traditional. There are several room types, from double, twin, and queen rooms to suites with large lounge areas and stunning views of the Sapporo Beer Factory.
The restaurant and bar are nothing to sneeze at either. With origins from German decor, the restaurant reminds me of The Great Gatsby, with beautiful gold walls and deep maroon seats. You can enjoy a delicious steak dinner, afternoon tea, and breakfast at the restaurant or lounge featuring seasonal delicacies from Hokkaido.
The hotel is directly connected to Sapporo Factory, the top shopping mall in the city. You’re also less than a 5-minute walk to the closest subway station and 12 minutes to Sapporo Station. Additionally, Sapporo TV Tower and Odori Park are only a 10-minute walk away, so you’re in a perfect location in the heart of Sapporo.
Overall, if you want to stay at the best hotel in Sapporo that perfectly emanates the city’s passion and culture, you’ll love Hotel Sosei!

“From the moment I stepped into the M Gallery Hotel in Sapporo, I felt genuinely welcomed. The lobby’s warm lighting and tasteful decor set the tone for a truly memorable stay. Every member of the team greeted me with a smile and went out of their way to ensure I had everything I needed. My stay here was my favourite part of my Japan trip and I could not recommend it enough.”

If you’re interested in staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan, you’re in luck. Onsen Ryokan Yuen is an authentic ryokan with an onsen right in the heart of Sapporo that oozes quiet luxury. It feels like a hidden gem that brings the rural onsen experience to the city, so you have the best of both worlds.

While it’s technically a 3-star hotel, the ambiance and detail are so luxurious that it feels like a 5 star hotel stay.
The rooms are quiet and minimalist, blending traditional Japanese design with modern comforts. The rooms are a vision with warm wood, washi paper lighting, and calming tones that immediately soothe your mind. And of course, Yuen has a dreamy onsen, an open-air stone bath filled with special Karurusu hot spring water, delivered straight from Noboribetsu.
You’ll be able to enjoy seasonal kaiseki-style meals crafted with premium Hokkaido ingredients, served by top-quality chefs. With its soothing design, tranquil onsen, and elevated touches throughout, Yuen offers a peaceful, elevated stay that feels like an escape from the city.
This hotel is extremely luxurious. The design and attention to detail is remarkable. We got little Japanese treats like walnut mochi and corn tea and enjoyed the yukatas we got for the stay. The bath was the most beautiful hotel bath we visited on our trip to Japan, and the free ice cream was a fun little touch. Perfect stay in Sapporo."

Sapporo Grand Hotel is one of the most historic hotels in Sapporo, originally established in 1934 under the direction of Prince Chichibu. It was designed to bring Western-style luxury to Hokkaido, and still delivers that timeless elegance and top-tier service to this day!

The rooms are modern and spacious with earthy, calming tones. You have choices between suites, double rooms, or king rooms to fit a variety of traveler preferences. There are also thoughtful amenities like BVLGARI and THEMAE toiletries, and in-room dining and massage treatments if you want to fully unwind.

“The service was excellent. One of the highest levels of service we experienced in Japan. They have many staff in the lobby waiting to serve and also many waitresses and waiters in the restaurant during our breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would come back again. The location was very central between Sapporo Station and Susukino.”
