Travel Safety Tips for Sapporo
Hands down, Sapporo and Japan are very safe for tourists. Even Susukino, the city's entertainment district, feels quite safe while walking around.
Now, while I strongly believe that Sapporo is very safe to travel to, you should always be a little wary when traveling in an unfamiliar place.
🎒 Keep a close hand on your belongings.
🚆 Look up your route and destination ahead of time.
❌ Be cautious of scammers who try to raise the price or charge you unfairly.
💳 Don't carry too much cash on you. It's very easy to use your credit card in Japan!
How do you get to Sapporo?
It's a little tricky to get to Sapporo. You'd have to fly internationally into Tokyo first. From there, you can either take a (very) long train ride or take a second flight to get to Sapporo. You can read more details on how to get to Sapporo in my guide.
When’s the best time to visit Sapporo?
I vote for Spring (April-May), when you can see the cherry blossoms flourish. But I might be a little biased because I just love warm weather!
Winter is a very popular time to visit Sapporo to see the Sapporo Snow Festival in February, especially if you want to come to ski or snowboard.
Any time is the best time to visit Sapporo because every season has something new to see and enjoy.
Is Sapporo worth going to?
Yes, Sapporo is completely worth going to. Sapporo has an abundance of restaurants, shops, and things to do. It's a large, bustling city that is always alive.

How do you get around in Sapporo?
Sapporo has a great transit system throughout the city and to adjacent places. You'll probably be using the subway system for the majority of the time.
However, if you want to see Lake Toya or other faraway destinations, you can rent a car or book a tour.
